Prop 2 deals with rights for farm animals. If passed, these caged animals will be required the space to turn around freely, lie down, stand up, and fully extend their limbs. Its absurd to me that in the year 2008 this is even an issue. But, if you need convincing, then you should know that Prop 2 will actually improve our food safety. Confining animals in crowded, stressful, and unhygienic conditions increases the risk of foodborne diseases. Animals who are treated well are healthier and safer for human consumption.

The only accurate argument I’ve heard is that passing this proposition will up consumer costs. Farmers will have to make changes that will inevitably cost them money and they will pass the expenses on to us. It will only affect some meat and dairy; not all food prices. Sorry, prohibiting cruelty is a necessary cost. I liken this situation to prisons. We could save a lot of money if we didn’t treat our jailed citizens with healthy accommodations but we pay the extra cost because its the humane thing to do. Prop 2 provides plenty of time for factory farms to shift to the less cruel practices as the law doesn’t go into affect until 2015.

Please, please, please stop animal cruelty and vote yes on Prop 2.

It seems @thebusybrain wrote this from an angle of trying to help.  He sees Twitter as a marketing tool, as many do, and found a way to maximize its use.  I believe he was sharing what he thought was useful information.  I can’t fault him for that nor can I get angry.  Of course some people did and left rude comments but that’s par for the course on the internet.  (See my previous post about comments.)

However, this whole idea has left me feeling a bit uneasy.  Yes, I follow back everyone who follows me.  Just like I accept every friend request on MySpace and Facebook.  I feel that is the polite thing to do.  If you, for whatever reason, take the time and effort to follow me then I want to return the favor.  But, I also want to read all my followers tweets and have conversations with them.  I have gotten to know some really cool people through Twitter.  Unfortunately, now I have a whole bunch of new followers that could care less about me and are just hoping I’ll check out their stuff.  And those people are clogging up my twitter feed.

I do see the benefits of using any social networking site for marketing.  That’s just not how I use them and I don’t really like those who use them as a one-way street.  Instead of a… hey look at me attitude, I’d prefer those with a… hey I’ll check out your stuff if you check out mine.

For the record, I did follow back all my new followers.  But, I will be paying close attention to those who are actually interested in having a conversation and getting to know each other.  Then I will start pruning back the list.

It has been way too long since I last made a Nerdtainment update and I guess my MBP is mad at me becuase when I finally got back to work, she didn’t want to work for me.  The sound wasn’t syncing up properly.  While I was troubleshooting that, the footage disappeared.  Oh, well…you can’t argue with Mercury Retrograde.  So, here’s my update in traditional blog format.

SNL
Saturday Night Live has finally decided to launch their own comedy website that will feature SNL clips and behind-the-scenes and backstage footage.  Welcome to the party, SNL!

Crusoe
To help promote the new NBC show Crusoe, they are building a treehouse on the corner of Broadway and 51st Street. There will be a live web cam stream at SaveCrusoe.com as well as Zune & Xbox giveaways.  And you can follow Robinson Crusoe himself on Twitter (which makes no sense at all)!

Spider-Man
The Broadway production of Spider-Man, that is currently being created by Julie Taymor (The Lion King), has become the most expensive production in theatre history. It has reached a budget of $40 million. With a weekly running cost of $1 million, the mathematicians have said it will have to run for 8,000 years just to break even. Yikes!

The End of Steve
Showtime has picked up the dark comedy The End of Steve, starring Mathew Perry.  I can’t express how excited this makes me.  I will watch Mathew Perry until the end of time!

Web Therapy
And speaking of my “Friends”…Lisa Kudrow has a new webseries, Web Therapy, which is on Lexus’ new L Studio. Kudrow plays an interesting therapist who only wants to do 3 minute sessions over video chat. She has an odd relationship with the first client played by the ever-brilliant Tim Bagley. There are three episodes up and each one is funnier than the last.

New Shows
Fall premieres continue with FOX this week. On Monday, Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles returns. Tuesday is the pilot episode of Fringe, created by J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and stars Joshua Jackson. And Wednesday brings a new sitcom Do Not Disturb and the return of ‘Til Death.

Esquire has put out the first magazine cover using E-Ink tech. They only made 100,000 issues so collectors better get their copy quick.

Viking Quest
Kevin Dillion’s Entourage character Johnny Drama was in a TV show called Viking Quest. Now there is a game based on that show and Drama ain’t happy. His YouTube rant is fun but it kind of looks like he’s reading from a teleprompter. He wouldn’t do that…right? Play the game at www.vikingquestgame.com.

Luckily, the TV show 24 was ahead of its shooting schedule since executive producer Howard Gordon has halted production for a re-working of scripts.

NERDS ROCK
The execs behind Rock Band have finally acknowledged our generation’s musical nerd genius’ Jonathan Coulton & MC Frontalot. Skullcrusher Mountain (one of my fav songs) and Livin’ at the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe are now available for the game.

Fall Premieres
Tis that time of year… September means new TV shows! The CW is getting it started this week. The new 90210 premieres as well as returning hits One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl and Americas Next Top Model.

SYTYCD Final
I was so impressed with the finale of So You Think You Can Dance. The judges explained there favorite dances from over the season and the finalists got to perform them again. It was so uplifting to watch these gifted, young dancers being supported instead of overlooked while A-list celebs performed instead.

Rehab
Its time for all of us internet addicts to get some help. There is now an in-patient addiction recovery facility for that has included internet addicts to its list of patients.

80’s Musical
Is this the year the best musical ever will be on off-Broadway? Maybe!! “Rock of Ages” will open this fall and feature tunes from some of the best of the 80’s!

• The new Knight Rider series looks like it has cheesy writing and acting but awesome car stunts and action scenes. In the preview they showed during the panel, KITT…wait for it…TRANSFORMED! Stop rolling your eyes, it was awesome.
• The Tr2n trailer looked pretty cool visually but it stars Jeff Bridges. Unfortunately for me, that is not someone I enjoy watching. I put up with him in Iron Man and still loved the movie so maybe there is hope.
• SUPER EXCITED ABOUT WOLVERINE! Hugh Jackman vs. Liev Schreiber…I need not say more.
• I enjoyed watching the Totally Rad Show guys tape a live version of their show. I was shocked at how few ladies there were in the audience, though. There were probably 3 other girls there besides me (I’m not exaggerating) and those girls looked like they had been dragged by their boyfriends/husbands.  Ladies, this is a good show, tune in.
• The Dr. Horrible panel was the most entertaining panel that I attended. That entire cast is hilarious. They took Q&A the full hour and pretty much just performed for the audience. There was one moment when everyone turned to Felicia Day waiting for her to answer a question. She looked up and said, “sorry, I was twittering”. The audience took it a dirty way and made some oohing noise. She turned bright red and flustered and didn’t know how to continue. She finally said, “I’m keeping my hands on the table”. It was very cute and endearing.
• I went to an EW.com panel with Kevin Smith, Judd Apatow, Zack Snyder & Frank Miller. Unfortunately, the moderator was unable to pose an adequate question and the panel of artistic genius’ stammered around mostly confused. Luckily, Kevin and Judd put their sense of humor into it and gave us some laughs. Here’s a bit of video I took of the funny duo…
• I think the highlight of my trip was being able to sit down with Jed & Zack Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, the writers of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. They were really cool and fun to interview. I was super excited to have that opportunity. It was for EPIC FU and will be in Thursday’s episode.

Overall, I was pushed around by crazed fans, rudely spoken to by “security”, financially assaulted by soda vendors, stood in absurdly long lines, walked approximately 3,259 miles throughout the convention center and molested a 13 year old boy as I fell on him while commuting on the trolley. But, pair that with all the cool people I met, including 4 twitter friends and Optimus Prime, I’m a pretty happy gal! My pix are up on Flickr.

I was really excited to find the G4 stage today. Attack of the Show is one of my very favorite shows. I TiVo it everyday. At 4 o’clock I went to the stage to watch the live taping of AOTS and it was crazy crowded. There just wasn’t enough room for everyone to stand near the stage. Security told us all to keep moving. So, I moved all around the stage trying to find a place to fit in. I asked where can I watch? Security said “keep moving”. Blah! I was super annoyed and angry that G4 was too cheap to have purchased enough space on the expo floor for an actual audience. BUT…fast forward to tonight.

I was able to get into the G4 party. This partay rocked! The awesome Nerdcore rappers YT Cracker, MC Frontalot and MC Lars put on an incredible show. Man, those guys are good. And when I first saw them just wandering around the party, I totally geeked out. I also became all giddy when Adam Sessler and Zack Selwyn walked by me. Its a bit embarrassing that I become a silly fangirl in those situations…but its what happens, I can’t help it.

So, the day ended with me loving G4 again. I am definitely going to try and get to the taping early Friday so that hopefully I can stand in one place to watch. As for now, I need to get some sleep.
