This year, I was watching the Oscar red carpet interviews, like I always do, when I heard Missi Pyle say “cruelty-free silk”! I jumped from my couch and went screaming through my home. That is the first time I’ve heard anyone discuss animal friendly fashions on the red carpet and I am so excited that the day has finally arrived.

In 2009, Suzy Amis Cameron, James Cameron’s wife, founded the “Red Carpet Green Dress” contest for designers to submit their red carpet worthy design made entirely of sustainable materials. And this year, The Artist actress Missi Pyle was selected to wear the winning Valentina Delfino gown made of cruelty-free, mineral-dyed silk and recycled polyester. She also carried a Stella McCartney clutch, a designer who is consistently eco-conscious and cruelty-free.

The Ahimsa silk used in Missi’s gown was procured after the worm naturally emerged from its cocoon and was caused no harm.

The message on their site says, “After 20 years of shoe making, Simple was ready for a vacation, a “creative reenergizing” if you will.” It sounds like it was their decision but its a shame that a company doing such great work for the environment and animal rights will cease to exist. We need more companies like that not less!!

The good news is, Zappos and Shoe.com still have Simple inventory. So its time to stock up before its all gone.

It’s made of coated fabric giving it a glossy, patent leather look. Finally, the conscious consumer can own a Coach bag. Can I get an Amen?!

Recently, my sister sent me the link to a shoe that she really liked. The DV Jane Espadrille by Dolce Vita. Unfortunately, they are made of suede. So I did what I do best…found a couple animal-friendly versions that are just as fun and adorable but far more compassionate! The wedge espadrille trend came back in style a couple years ago. This shoe however, has an added buckle blending the wedge espadrille with the ever popular mary jane. So I begin my hunt using those terms in the search engine and of course stopping by some of my favorite sites.
These are so cute with the navy blue fabric and tiny white polka dots, strawberries, cherries, and flowers on top of a basket weave straw wedge heel.
ASOS PANSY Mary Jane Canvas Wedge I love the texture on these. They almost look crocheted. The mix of soft pink and cream make this shoe work as a neutral.

We are smack dab in the middle of winter and what does that mean for us ladies? Boots! Here are some animal friendly options for the fashionable & conscious.

I bought these completely synthetic leather Madden Girl boots for work and pleasure. The slouchy style and rounded toe are flattering to all figures. And the buckles are just plain cool! I got these in grey but they also come in black and brown. You can get them from DSW and ShoeStation.

The knit boot is a popular style these days and and cows across the world are celebrating. I found these cute ones with a faux suede heel, faux fur insole and button details from Miss Me Cupcake. They come in brown, navy, white, black & grey. DSW, UrbanOG, Amazon

I’m a big fan of Blowfish. They make awesome cruelty-free couture. Both fashionable and comfy. My fave boots this season are Wink Wink and Hey Now Shearling.

I love the fold over style of Wink Wink with zipper detailing. So mod & trendy! I’m also a big fan of the grey flannel that Blowfish does so well, like in these Hey Now Shearling. Its a stylish way to to get warmth without leather. Not to mention they are lined with faux shearling. It doesn’t get better than that!

Happy Vegan shopping, my friends!

Premiere week (its a month, really) is going strong and I am loving some new shows (and old ones) already. Lets break it down to 3 categories. 1. Season Pass- the shows that I love and am excited to watch all season! 2. Considering- the shows worth viewing another episode. 3. Delete- the shows that lost me from the get-go and I predict wont make a season.

Season Pass-

Terriers, FX: Former cop Hank, Donal Logue and buddy Britt, Michael Raymond-James, are two adorable wannabe private investigators. The first episode started a captivating story and the second kept me hooked. I just hope they bring Mongo the bulldog back!

Nikita, CW: Maggie Q’s Nikita is kick-ass, smart and beautiful. I love the relationship between her and the hard, yet compelling Michael, Shane West. The first two episodes totally sucked me into what brought Nikita and Alex together and all that they may accomplish. And Julie Cooper is the Instuctor!

Gossip Girl, CW: So stocked for its 4th season. The premeire was all it needed to be!

Mike and Molly, CBS: I needed this to be funny and it did not let me down. I am such a fan of Melissa McCarthy. She deserves to be headlining a sitcom. The pilot had the typical sitcom set-up pitfalls but the series has the potential for great story lines. I hope the network allows these characters to settle in and America will fall in love!

Chuck, NBC: The nerd/spy is back and ready for action. With Linda Hamilton showing up as his mother, I believe we will have a nice season long story arc with his search to find her.

Castle, ABC: Is this not the best role ever for Nathan Fillion? He and Stana Katic are dynamite together and oh so HOT!

Running Wilde, FOX: This was my most anticipated new show. I love Will Arnett and he did not let me down. His humor is this show and that is ok with me. Kerri Russell rises to his level and surprisingly Stefania LaVie Owen, who plays Kerri Russell’s daughter stands her ground with these major stars.

Considering-

Hellcats, CW: Marti Perkins, Alyson Michalka, lost her college financial aid so she joins the cheerleading squad at her Memphis university and qualifies for a scholarship. Yeah, its an overly predictable plot but the characters are charming and the chemistry between Marti and Ashley Tisdale’s Savannah is fun. I’d like to see where they take this.

Raising Hope, FOX: I had no hopes for this but I actually enjoyed the pilot. There is a warmth between this working-class family that tugged at my heart a bit as well as made me chuckle. Martha Plimpton is spot on as the tell-it-like-it-is mom and Cloris Leachman shines as the senile grandma. This show is a mix of My Name is Earl and Malcolm in the Middle but I’m not sure where the story lines are headed.

Better With You, ABC: This pilot actually had me laughing out loud. The comic skills of Josh Cooke, Joanna Garcia and Debra Jo Rupp make this show. The writing was great and I look forward to seeing if this can be the next How I Met Your Mother.

Delete-

The Ev3nt, NBC: This show lost me at hello. It clearly wants to be the next Lost so it threw in more questions than plot lines in the pilot. I was totally disappointed since the cast is stellar and they deserve a long running show. Maybe the masses will get hooked on the “what is going on” formatting but I’m gonna pass.

There is more to watch on my TiVo and more shows to premiere. Isn’t the fall television season exciting!!?!

I must admit, I am BUMMED that Oprah hasn’t called me about my Sarah Safe audition video. I won’t go into the fact that I am the hostess with the mostest or that I’m actually capable of producing this show as well as host. Or how passionate I am about this subject. But, I will point out that this show is our future. We need it. Vegan restaurants and cupcakeries are everywhere these days. Let’s take it to the next level. There are designers all over this world crafting fashion, both upscale and moderate, with cruelty-free chic in mind. I’ll take it upon myself to expose them to you all. I would like to enlighten those who wear clothes on how to be fashion-savvy as well as animal-friendly.

Please, feel free to pass this on to all the network executives you know!
